Just Say YES!

Truly amazing things happen when you just say yes. Let me give you a few examples. This man I am seeing asked if I would go with him to hit golf balls. Please understand that I am a tennis person so my initial reaction was, is this going to be fun? Instead of being overly circumspect, I just said yes. Turns out that he is a really good golfer (who knew?), has been playing for about 40 years. Did I hit some balls at the driving range? No, I was too self-conscious but he did buy me a putter. Where would I have been if I had not said yes? Sitting at home. Ugh, boring.
I used that putter to mess around with my girlfriend at the 8 hole putting range at my community down here in Florida. I was not half bad. Best of all, another friend of mine came running out of her condo and said, “Nancy, I want to give you my golf clubs. I have never used them, never plan on using them so they are yours!” (All because I initially said yes.). She refused payment. I will be taking her to dinner to thank her.
My new man friend’s daughter sent him an invitation to her graduation from medical school out in California (hematology and oncology, not shabby). He asked me if I wanted to go to Los Angeles with him. Yes, golf would be in the mix. It was for 5 days and I just said yes. No, I do not love LA. NYC will always be my first love but seeing a new place, meeting his cousin and his friend, driving the golf cart while they played was, well, a lot of fun. Something I had never done before.
Most recently he called me up on Sunday and asked me what I was doing. I said reading the newspaper. He said how would you like to take a golf lesson? I said sure, where should I meet you? One hour later and after putting on a tennis outfit (no golf outfit yet), I took my first golf driving lesson from a lady pro. I did quite well. (I have a video to prove it). Where would I have been if I had not said yes? Having another cup of coffee and still reading the paper.
I signed up for a Women’s Connection lecture on AI, artificial intelligence. AI is something that I viewed with trepidation and decided to face head on. AI is not scary. In fact, it is amazingly innovative. I have already used it to research to the best blush for women with white hair and blue eyes. Watch out world! I am coming at you!
Here is what I am trying to get across. By saying yes, we open ourselves up to a whole new world. Don’t walk by that interesting store. Stop and walk in to it. Never been to a new neighborhood? Go. Never eaten octopus, Armenian food, mangoes? Just do it. Life is short. If not now, when?
I wish you the best on your new explorations. Get out there! Please be sure to share where you dared to go for the first time.
